1907-1908James Murray Spangler's Invention

James Murray Spangler, an asthmatic janitor from Ohio, invented and patented the first portable electric vacuum cleaner in 1908 to combat dust that worsened his asthma. He later founded the Electric Suction Sweeper Company.

1908Partnership with William Hoover

Susan Hoover introduced James Spangler’s vacuum cleaner invention to her husband, William Hoover, who saw its potential. Hoover acquired the patent, began production under his name, and renamed the company ""The Hoover Company"" in 1922, establishing it as a leader in household cleaning.

1930sExpansion into Europe

In the 1930s, Hoover expanded to Europe, establishing a factory in Perivale, England. This move solidified its dominance in the British market, where "Hoover" became synonymous with vacuum cleaners due to strong advertising and product appeal.
