Season change: washing and storing your clothes properly

    31/03/21
    Season change

    It’s time for change

When seasons start to change, our clothes usually need some change as well. Spring has come, and this means there’s no need for sweaters, coats, hats and gloves anymore, at least until the next cold season. Storing seasonal clothing is not just about tossing everything in a box and put it in a remote corner of the house. If you want to keep your wardrobe at its best for longer, you will need to do more than that.

Here are some tips for you in order to store your clothes in the best way possible and find them in perfect shape when you will need them again next year.

Make sure clothes are perfectly clean and sanitized

Before storing your clothes for the summer, you should definitely give them a nice wash and make sure there are no stains left, as they would only darken and become worse in time. Also, clean clothes are less likely to attract insects that could cause damages. As for the washing we suggest running a hygiene cycle on your clothes to remove all dust and bacteria and have them sanitized before putting them away.

    Choose the right storage

When storing your winter wardrobe, a cardboard box may not be the best choice, as it will eventually fall apart, transfer white or yellow stains onto your garments, and it may also be not very easy to move around.

Using clean plastic containers or bins with secure lids is definitely a better choice, especially if you want to avoid attracting bugs or dust. Just make sure your clothes are perfectly dry before putting them in the container to avoid any moisture getting trapped in and causing mold and mildew. You can also use acid-free tissue papers to wrap your clothing within the container.

    The perfect spot

The best place to leave your clothes for the season is in a climate-controlled area in your home. Temperatures must be stable and preferably cool or not too warm in order to get a good preservation of fibers. The chosen place should also be clean, dry and dark to prevent mold growth and fading. This means that your basement or attic may not be the right spot for it. If you want to be sure you will find your clothes as you left them, we suggest you keep an eye on them and check them once in a while to make sure there’s no storage issue.

With Hoover H-WASH 500 & H-DRY 500 you can get your wardrobe ready for season storage! H-WASH 500 ensures 20% better cleaning action thanks to the Power Care System that creates the perfect mix of water and detergent, together with a specific Hygiene cycle that increases the washing temperature up to 60°C to remove all allergens and bacteria from your laundry. H-DRY 500 gets your clothes perfectly dried and sanitized thanks to the Active Dry function, specifically designed to refresh garments by removing bad smells, germs, spores and bacteria in a natural way and provide you with the best hygiene for you and your family. If you’re not sure about what’s the right program to properly take care of your clothes, you can download the hOn App and access exclusive features and personal advice to get the best performance.
