It’s easy to become a serial hoarder when you don’t have much free time on your hands. Having a cluttered wardrobe can result in stress, and wasted time, so clearing it out should be a priority.
How to declutter your wardrobe
The start of a new season is often the perfect time to sort through your clothes, but in reality, you can organise your wardrobe all year round.
First of all, grab 4 large boxes and fill them with clothes from your wardrobe: dedicate one to clothes you want to keep, one to clothes to donate to charity, one to clothes that need mending, and one to clothes to give away/sell.
Once you’ve finished, label a few boxes with lids, and create specific sections in your wardrobe.
We also recommend folding your clothes in a specific way to save space:
- roll up your T-shirts and put them in your drawers vertically, grouping them together by colour
- put dresses and skirts on hangers
- use hangers with rings to hang up bulky scarves, boots and shoes
If your shoes take up a lot of room in your wardrobe, why not use cardboard dividers? You can use them to store your shoes in a more orderly fashion.
Additional tips for making space in your wardrobe
Ever considered using suitcases to declutter your wardrobe? We recommend filling a few up with seasonal clothes (e.g. swimwear in winter) or bags you don’t use very often.
Sheets, blankets and duvets are very bulky items and tend to take up a lot of wardrobe space. One solution is to use vacuum storage bags. All you need to do is fill the bag, seal it, and then suck out the air using a vacuum cleaner or special appliance.
Make the most of your wardrobe doors. Get your hands on some space savers for clothes, accessories and bags and hang them on the back of your wardrobe door.
We also recommend storing your bedlinen in pillowcases to keep it nice and organised, and to free up even more space in your wardrobe.
