How to store all types of wine correctly: useful tips

White wine, red wine and sparkling wine: what is the right temperature and method to store your bottles? Here are a few tips

Wine chillers have now become one of the main solutions to store wine bottles in a classy and long-lasting way. However, you need to know what temperature to set to store your wine correctly to prevent any damage and to offer it fresh and good to your guests. Not all wines have the same characteristics, and you need to take all aspects into account, to preserve its flavour. Here are a few useful tips.

    How to store red wine

Red wine is generally full bodied and it requires special attention to the storage temperature in the wine chiller, to prevent any damage. Generally, red wine should be stored at a temperate between 12° and 16°. Some wines - especially young red wines - can be stored at lower temperatures; however, no red wine should be stored under 11°C or over  18.

Red wine is sensitive, and it should be stored correctly to prevent wine precipitations, such as sediments on the bottom, second fermentation, oxidation or alcohol evaporation.

How to store white and rose wine

White wine is stored at different temperatures than red wine. Contrary to the latter, it can be kept at a slightly colder temperature; the ideal temperature for a still white wine is between 8 and 12°C. For sparkling wines, the limit for a pleasant taste is around 10°C.

Also rose wines should be considered separately. The optimal storing temperature is between 10 and 12°C, albeit they can also be served warmer, between 12 and 14°C.

Other tips for perfect wine conservation

Temperature is essential for correctly storing your wine in the wine chiller, along with other things you should pay attention to, such as:

    • Position: if you want to store a bottle for a long time, store it horizontally so that the cork is in contact with the wine and does not dry up.
    • Light: the wine chiller and the wine should never be exposed to sunlight, which could damage the bottles and oxidise the beverage.
    • Humidity: even when closed, wine bottles still experience some evaporation. This is why the humidity level should be between 80 and 85%.
    • Ventilated environment: the room where you store your wine should be free from vibrations and ventilated, to prevent the wine from absorbing any odours.

Purchasing a wine chiller will help you store your bottles in the best way possible. Hoover wine chillers can be easily connected to the hOn app that offers you many interesting contents. The app will also allow you to catalogue your bottles and discover their secrets, directly on your smartphone.

After these tips, how can you give up on a wine chiller to store your bottles?
