Hand-washing or washer? How to sanitize your cleaning rags

Keeping your house clean means also sanitizing the rags and sponges you use everyday to clean surfaces and floors. Let's see how to sanitize your cleaning rags!

Faithful companions and allies, over time, cleaning sponges and rags run the risk of getting our home surfaces even dirtier.

Want to have a sanitized, clean, and germ- and bacteria-free home? Then you must know how to sanitize cleaning rags.

What is the best way? Hand-washing or washer?

How do you sanitize bathroom and kitchen sponges?

A good way to clean effectively is to have dedicated sponges and rags for every room in your home. Bathrooms and kitchens are the rooms more subjected to bacteria, and this is why it is important to wash the sponges you use to clean these environments accurately.

Here is how in 3 simple steps:

    1. First of all, rinse the sponges under running water (preferably warm) and remove all food or dirt residues.
    2. Then, use dish soap or bleach to sanitize them and wring them accurately.
    3. Lastly, let the sponges air dry well laid out, to prevent them from remaining moist and foul-smelling.

You should do this every day, or even better, after every use. To keep the rags in good conditions over time, wash them thoroughly with a washing cycle in the washer at least once a week.

Dust and floors: how to sanitize cleaning rags

Dust rags should be cleaned in the same way as sponges. However, before washing them under running water, remember to beating them out of the window when they are still dry, to remove all the dust build ups between the fibres.

When it comes to floor mopping rags, it would be best to wash them after each use in the washer, with a gentle detergent, since this is the only way to ensure a thorough cleaning.

How to thoroughly wash sponges and rags?

Washing sponges and rags in the washer is surely the quickest, most hygienic way to sanitize your cleaning allies. What is the best washing program for cleaning rags?

In general, it would be best to use high temperatures; however, you'd run the risk of ruining them and making them useless. Latest-generation washers have special programs, perfect to clean even the dirtiest rags. For instance, H-WASH 550, has a cycle called Allergy Care Pro that, thanks to the combined action of steam and a powerful rinse, removes any trace of mites, particles and allergens, sanitizing any kind of fabric, without damaging it.

Remember, to always have perfect and scented rags, you should take care of your appliances, following the correct maintenance and keeping filters and basket always clean.
