How to correctly use your washing machine to save energy

Follow these simple energy-saving tips for making efficient use of your washing machine

Let’s be clear: a washing machine is a tool that we can no longer do without at home and, due to its frequent use, it is important to know how to maximize its performance in order to save energy and – consequently – to be environmentally friendly. By slightly changing your habits and following a few simple tips, you can also start to use it in the most suitable and beneficial way. Let’s find out how together!

    Clean at the right time

With the two-rate and multi-rate tariffs policy, energy is cheaper from 19:00 to 8:00 during weekdays, as well as on weekends and holidays. Take advantage of this opportunity and program the washing machine to operate when the energy cost is lowest.

    Washing with a full load

A full load allows you to bundle a number of garments together in the same wash, which means that fewer washes are required and that you efficiently consume energy and water. However, you must be careful not to overload the washing machine’s drum; if it is overfilled, the water will not be able to circulate freely and your laundry will, therefore, be less clean, making it necessary to wash your clothes again.

    Choose the correct traditional programme

Every washing machine offers a choice of different programmes. Whenever possible, use those with lower temperatures and shorter durations. Only wash clothes with stubborn dirt at 90 °C. Usually, 60 °C is more than sufficient. If the garments are not particularly dirty, use even lower temperatures (40 degrees is fine in many cases).

    Explore eco programmes

Longer, energy-saving programmes enable you to reduce consumption from 30% to 45%; use them daily or alternate them with traditional programmes and you will soon see a reduction in your bill.

Invest in a class a appliance

If you are planning to buy or replace a washing machine, invest in a A model, such as Hoover’s H-WASH 500: a new generation washing machine equipped with the most advanced technologies that will guarantee the best performance and results; the Artificial Intelligence learns your daily habits and provides automatic suggestions on the best washing solution.
